After completing the course, students will be able to:identify and explain some of the main concepts at the intersection of gender and media, such as representation, subject, identity, intertextuality, stereotypes, power, audiences, sexualization, empowerment, and activismrecognize connections and interdependencies between the topicsanalyze case studies with the help of theoretical framework provided in the course

Exam-Description

Prüfungsmethode/n
The grade will consist of:45% presentation45% two reflection papers (max. 4 pages each)10% participation in discussions of readings and presentationsStudents are required to fulfill all three elements to get a grade. Feedback to the reflection papers and presentations will be regularly provided.
Prüfungsinhalt/e
Presentations:Presentation slots will be available after each of the three thematic blocks (Representing, Producing, Consuming).Students are free to choose any topic that broadly fits one of these themes.Whether presentations will be given in groups or individually depends on the number of participants.Two reflection papers (max. 4 pages each) are on the readings from the themes in which the student is not presenting.Guidelines for writing reflection papers:What are the most exciting or interesting points addressed in the readings?Do the arguments convince me? If so, why? If not, why not, and what could make them more interestingWhat further examples related to the readings come to my mind? What questions do the readings raise for me? What, if anything, do I not understand?
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
to 49% = nicht genügend50% - 64% = genügend (4)65% - 79% = befriedigend (3)80% - 90% = gut (2) 91% - 100% = sehr gut (1)
