Upon completing this course, students will be familar with - existing (linguistic) theories and approaches to language, discourse, gender and sexuality- current theoretical and empirical foci in this field- various linguistic methods to collect data and to analyze texts and discourses on gender, sexuality and diversityStudents will also be more critically aware of how language and discourse function as powerful agents in the context of people's gendered and sexual identities. Also, students will be more critically aware of how various aspects of our identity, such as gender and sexuality, but also age, social background, intersect.
