Guided by American Studies/Cultural Studies students learn fundamentals of US History/Society by exploring historic and contemporary fictional as well as non-fiction texts dealing with aspects of health and sickness.

Inhalt/e
What is health and how is it represented in US American cultural texts? What role does wealth play in the maintenance of health(care), and what other intersectional aspects play a role in the perception of health in the USA? Who gets access to healthcare, and what is considered healthy overall? Is health a concept that is being treated equally for everyone, regardless, of age, class, gender, race, ability, etc.? This class is taking a look at aspects of health in US American culture with regards to, for example, medicine, care, food and nutrition, as well as human rights and reproductive rights, discussing US American perspectives on health(care) from a humanities perspective.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Basic knowledge of Cultural Studies concepts, especially cultural representation (https://uk.sagepub.com/sites/default/files/upm-assets/66880_book_item_66880.pdf) and academic paper writing.
