Students are required to complete a work placement in an Austrian or international business, a public administrative office, a non-profit organisation or a non-university research institution in order to try out and apply in practice the skills they have gained. The work placement may also be completed in a university research institute. The work placement must amount to 300 hours (Curriculum 13W and 18W) or 280 hours (Curriculum 22W).

Students must inform their supervising university teacher of their choice of work placement in advance, who must then approve it. The Programme Director must agree with the supervising university teacher’s decision to approve the work placement. After the work placement and no later than during the following semester, students are required to write a work placement report and to give a presentation about the work placement.The presentation of the work placement must be held in English and should last 30 to 45 minutes.The date/time are agreed between supervisor and student.If two students plan to do their presentation within, e.g., a week, it would be good to have it within one event. The presentation can take place during the holidays, but it should be "close" to the semester. I.e., first half of July or September is ok.As soon as the date is fixed, the student sends the following information to mathematik-lehre@aau.at, asking Mirjam Jonk or Marie Biedermann to send out the invitation: title of talk, date, time, duration, room, abstract, supervisor.
