By the end of this course, students should be able to:- critically analyse an essay in terms of its structure and style- construct an essay plan- select and use appropriate grammatical structures and academic vocabulary to achieve desired formality and register- write a formal argumentative essay and comparison and contrast essay implementing the structure and style taught in class
Lehrmethodik
Workshops, online tasks, self-study, writing assignments in class and written homework assignments.Students are required to regularly read academic papers in English in order to develop their academic reading skills and awareness of academic vocabulary and register.
Inhalt/e
This course which focuses on academic writing covers the following:- essay structure (introduction, main body and conclusion)- thesis statements- the writing process (including planning and proof reading)- argumentative essays- comparison and contrast essays- citing and referencing (including quoting, paraphrasing and summarising)- features of formal academic writing (including vocabulary and grammar)punctuation- style and register
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Students taking this course are expected to know how to write a well-developed and cohesive paragraph by employing common signposting and transition phrases as well as basic academic vocabulary.

B.A. students (612) must have completed English for Academic Purposes. Lehramt”/UF/B.Ed. students (407) must have completed module ENB (Pronunciation and Language Productive and Receptive Skills).
