Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students in this course will improve their skills and increase their comfort level with presenting and communicating in English. Short to long presentations, both prepared and spontaneous, will be given individually, with a partner, and/or in a small group to a larger group audience. To accomplish this, students are expected to actively and consistently participate in open discussions on a variety of topics and to increase their understanding of text types as source material for the discussions and presentations. In all cases, the goal is to raise the quality of spoken and written expression through control and accuracy.
Lehrmethodik
The main emphasis is on spoken interaction in the classroom. Students are given broad tasks to complete, and they are responsible for knowing and managing the content of what they are saying. Written submissions (e.g., Job application +CV, Article Summaries, Abstract, Program Description, Academic Essay,...) are read and returned by the teacher. The student corrects and collects the texts and puts them into their portfolio, a formal demonstration of their writing skills in English. The intention is to conduct the course entirely face-to-face, but it may switch to online as the situation demands.
