Intendierte Lernergebnisse
The seminar offers different frameworks for transdisciplinary research against the background of the spatial turn that has taken place in the humanities in recent years. In addition to learning about the range of contemporary research, the theme of spatiality is representative of an inductive approach in which concepts are developed from the description of a 'situation' determined by materiality, communication, relations, inclusion/exclusion and discourses.
Lehrmethodik
Starting with the dialectics of spatiality as elaborated by Henri Lefebvre and EdwardSoja, the readings, presentations and discussions will look at exemplary surveys in cultural studies and the methods and concepts developed in this context, such as heterotopology, mnemospace or place(less)ness. The seminar will be taught in English, en bloc on campus, with a preliminary introduction in which students will also briefly present the status of their research, and a subsequent reflective session (both online) in which the outcome for the dissertation will be considered.
Inhalt/e
In addition to Lefebvre, Foucault and Soja, readings will include works by Doreen Massey, Pierre Bourdieu, Sara Ahmed, Homi Bhabha and others.
