The final grade is an aggregate of continuous assessment throughout the semester, based on the following pillars:30% Active Participation - Come to class prepared (reading assigned texts, revising notes, etc.) and take part in class discussions. Come to class and hand in your assignments on time, and notify the lecturer of any delays. Each student is allowed three absences.30% Written Work - Academic essays based on the materials discussed in class. All academic work must be fully referenced using the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, author-date.40% Final Exam - Open-book exam at the end of the semester.Failing one pillar of assessment results in failing the entire class.

constructive contributions during class discussionsquality of exam answersdepth of analysis, structure and quality of written work, quality of secondary sourcesThe use of AI (e.g. ChatGPT) for completing assignments/answering exam questions is strictly forbidden and will lead to a negative grade, removal from the class as well as a report to university leadership. There is the possibility of an individual, oral follow-up defence in order to check whether this rule is respected.
