This course is targeted at 1st semester students and is meant to introduce them to the most important topics and concepts related to academic language learning, studying at university (both in general and at the AAU), and being a student of the English language.By the end of this course, students should ® be familiar with and implement the concept of“learner agency”, i.e. taking responsibility for organizing their own learning in ways that will be discussed, such as, e.g., seeking every opportunity to make use of the many resources available for improving their English® have acquired a variety of language-related study skills with a particular focus on the requirements of the language classes in the BA “Worlds of English”® have heightened their awareness of cultural norms, varieties, and value systems of people from a variety of backgrounds® be familiar with a variety of (tertiary)educational systems and be able to compare and contrast them® have increased their fluency and confidence in spoken English, e.g. participating appropriately in group discussions and dialogues® be able to give a brief oral presentation of prepared materials® have improved their skill in reading texts quickly and efficiently in order to gather information required for specific tasks
