Admission to this course will take place AFTER the results of the Placement Test have been received by the instructor. An e-mail explaining the course schedule will take place thereafter.On completing the course, students should be familiar with the phonemes of English, primary focus will be on General American English;intonation and other prosodic features; word and sentence stress; the IPA notation of the above and their realization in an American standard; andconnected-speech phenomena: linking, reduction, pausing.

The course aims to improve the students' pronunciation skills (in American English) by increasing their awareness and providing practice opportunities. students are expected to commit to extensive at-home practice.Topics to be covered in this course include but are not limited to:IPA system;Word and phrasal stress;Intonation and other suprasegmental elements of English;Vowels and consonants, in isolation and in combination; andAttitudes and obstacles in the acquisition of pronunciation.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Students are not expected to know the International Phonetic Alphabet, but quick mastery of the English-related signs must be accomplished early in the term.
