Gaining a basic understanding of the challenges linked to the shift from centralized to distributed energy resources, including aspects like metering, pricing, and communication. Being able to model and analyze the integration of information technology into power systems to develop smart grids. Exploring smart grid components, energy generation, and distribution networks. Understanding photovoltaics, wind power, and energy sustainability. Discovering insights into smart microgrids, metering, home automation, and the evolving field of e-mobility within smart grids. After this lecture, students should also be capable of applying their knowledge in a research project.

There are weekly lectures before small groups to facilitate effective communication, supplemented by content accessible on the corresponding Moodle platform.

The transformation from centralized to distributed energy resources brings new challenges for metering, pricing, communication, and distribution. Basically we will see a power system enhanced with information technology. This lecture gives an introduction to the key mechanism of the smart grid.
