In this pro-seminar, students will learn about the replication crisis in (social) psychology and what it means for evaluating studies and papers, as well as for theory building. Moreover, they will learn about important markers for qualitatively reliable research by comparing older to more recent studies in the field.

This pro-seminar applies a diverse set of teaching methods: students have to read and evaluate papers, which will be checked in weekly quizzes; then – as part of a rework exercise – they need to engage in online forums, where their contribution is checked on a weekly basis as well; finally, they will have to do an oral presentation on one of the topics

Replication crisis in psychology, classic papers such as on the “facial feedback” hypothesis and its replication studies, different successful and failed replication attempts
